Suki makes drawings, paintings and installations involving sculpture, collage and assemblage. The drawings, paintings and works are most often the size of her own reach. She is drawn to unrefined materials and found objects that are patinated by time and have lost their origin. The works, presented both individually and in series, are informed by an interest in deep time and embodied knowledge and reflect a search for connections between primordial matter, marks and imagery. Her previous career as a geographer has influenced her concern with spatial relationships that are integral to the process of making; she places equal importance on the presence and absence of marks and matter in both actual landscapes and imagined spaces. The cycles in the natural world are inferred through the transfer and movement of matter, marks and imagery between the field and the studio. Creative play and direct making are central to releasing these elements. Situated between the figurative and the abstract, her work seeks to challenge the perceived boundaries between interior and external worlds. As a geographer artist Suki relates to and understands her practice in relation to the ontological and its always becoming; of greatest importance to her is the role of the artist in the world’s becoming. Alongside her practice Suki runs an artist run project and gallery space in Whitechapel, London (#greatorexstreet_e1), and has exhibited in Dublin, London, Marseille and Miami.
